What We Do

Since 2011, Food Rescue US has saved 46.5 million pounds of fresh, usable food from landfills and delivered to agencies that serve people that are food insecure.

The Facts About Food Waste

40%
American Food Supply
Each year, the United States throws away 40% of its food supply.
$165
Billion
Wasted food is worth $165 billion every year.
40.05
Billion Meals
Annual wasted meals could feed 36.5 million people three meals every day of the year.
67.58
Billion Pounds
That's 67.58 billion pounds of waste that ends up in landfill, damaging our environment with harmful methane gases.
236
Pounds per Person
The average weight in the United States is 166 pounds. That means that a person throws away 1.4x his or her weight in food each year.
157
Full Meals per Person
The average person wastes one full meal every 2.3 days. That's like taking your dinner and simply dumping it in the trash every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday.

How It Works

Connect

The Food Rescue US app bridges the gap between those with extra food, those who need food and volunteers willing to help.

Donate

Restaurants, grocers and other food industry sources post about extra food that would otherwise be wasted.

Deliver

Volunteers with vehicles check the schedule of potential food rescues and choose deliveries that work for them.

Feed

Social service agencies', such as community kitchens and food pantries, needs are matched with excess food for food rescuers to deliver.

Turn Up To Give

It’s on all of us to ensure every child in America can count on three healthy meals a day, especially as so many families are still struggling in the wake of the pandemic. The good news? Childhood hunger is a solvable problem, but it’s going to take all of us.

*$1 can help provide 10 meals. No Kid Hungry does not provide individual meals; your donations help support programs that feed kids. Learn more at NoKidHungry.org/OneDollar.

Thank you for your donation!
